2010 BEGINNERS' COURSE

Kendo Beginner's CourseThe University of Melbourne Kendo Club (UMKC) runs one Beginners' Course each year for those with no previous kendo experience who wish to learn the basics of, and eventually start practicing, kendo. After completion of the Course, the student will join in with the general practice at the UMKC dojo. Please note that completion of the Course is mandatory to UMKC membership, unless you have prior kendo experience. Student or non-student, all are welcome at UMKC.

Dates/Times

The Club training times are Monday 5:30-7:30pm and Thursday 5:00-6:30pm. The Beginners' Course is held at these times and will begin in the second week of semester on Monday 8th March and run for approximately six to eight weeks at the discretion of head instructor Yakov Macak Sensei.

Attendance at the first session, regular attendance thereafter and strict punctuality is expected. Students who cannot fulfill these requirements may be denied UMKC membership.

Cost: $60.00

Kendo BeginnersThis includes all trainings for the duration of the Course and shinai (bamboo sword) hire. Students are encouraged to purchase their own shinai, from the Club or elsewhere, and must do so by the end of the Course.

Please note that on completion of the course students are required to join the UMKC and Melbourne University Sport (MUS) at a cost of $80.00 for the year.

Students are not required to purchase the kendo keikogi (training uniform) until they feel ready to do so. For now, come in loose fitting casual attire (track pants and tee shirt are recommended), ready to take off any jewellery that may obstruct or injure you during training.
